More Camping

This past weekend it was the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We were a bit concerned that we weren't going to be able to get in due to the fires near the Gunflint Trail. The area that we camped in, Brule Lake, was far enough south that we were still able to access it. There was a total restriction on campfires, however. From time to time we could smell and see smoke from the forest fires and helicopters with giant "buckets" in tow were constantly flying back and forth.

We had a great time fishing and canoeing. Maggie, Kim and Joe had some great luck with the fish. The three of them pulled in well over 20 fish, with Maggie's 2 1/2 pound bass probably being the largest. Julia also caught her first fish ever. The weather was great and the bugs weren't bad, it was pretty much the sweetest Boundary Water's trip ever.

Another Successful Annual Camping Trip

A group of us once again made the trip to the North Shore to do some camping. This year, since it was predicted to be around 100 degrees, we abandoned our traditional campsite in the woods for one on the lake. The weather was beautiful there. We had a great time playing cowboy golf, eating (like the breakfast that Morgan made for everyone: a french toast, sausage patty, fried egg, bacon sandwich with maple syrup), and mountain biking at Lutsen.

Here we are enjoying some burgers after a hard day of mountain biking. Posted by Picasa

We were treated to a spectaular display of lightning on Saturday night. We watched as this storm went by us on the lake. Posted by Picasa
