Early Season Rock

No, not death metal. Real rock. In March.

Julia, Matt, and I took a trip down to Red Wing to climb at Barn Bluff this weekend. There was still lots of snow on the ground, but the temps were in the low 50s. Unfortunately, the rock we were climbing on was in the shade and cold fingers were common. We still had a blast.

Matt takes the first lead of the season up this chilly buttress.

I lead a different route while Matt belays. There's snow on the ground and we're in the shade, but there is no wind to speak of.

Julia high on the rock.

You can tell by the look on her face that she knows just how serious this game really is.
