National Guard Activation

I knew it would probably happen someday, and as most of you know, it has. I will be heading to Camp Ripley on the 11th of October for some administrative preparations, then will have the 14th and 15th off. On the 16th there will be a friends and family send-off at Ripley. The 17th is the day that we get on the plane for Fort Dix, NJ. I've been ordered not to give any further information, although most of you know where it goes from there.

Lately, however, I've been having a good time on Gull Lake as well as traveling a little bit. I went to Florida a few weeks ago to visit a friend, Chris Sellman, and enjoyed the good weather between hurricanes Frances and Iven. We missed getting an official evacuation notice from Key West by about 10 minutes.

When I returned from Florida, my dad and I took a trip up to Lake Pokegama near Grand Rapids. My mom also put together a very nice family going-away party for me the following weekend. It's always good to see the aunts, uncles, and cousins. The weather even cooperated!

Well, I've set up this weblog so that I can have a place to keep everyone posted as to what is going on with me. I'm going to try to post at least once a week while I'm away. Please feel free to post comments or send me email whenever you get a chance. I hope I can see everyone at least once before I take off, if not, my apologies.
